The Combined Community Action Senior Nutrition Program, also know as "Meals on Wheels", serves hot, noon meals to persons who are 60 years of age and older and their spouses on a congregate setting and to the home bound in a six county area. Counties served are: Bastrop, Blanco, Caldwell, Fayette, Hays and Lee. Eighteen communities are served: Volunteers deliver most home delivered meals. Only about 1% are delivered by staff.

The program receives funds from the Texas Department of Aging and Disabilities (DADS). These are federal funds from the Department of Health and Human Services. Other funding comes from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, local county and city governments, United Way of Hays County, civic organizations, churches, businesses, individuals and the clients themselves.

Eligibility:

For congregate meals - persons must be 60 years of age or older or the spouse (regardless of age) of an eligible client. Disabled persons who live with an eligible client may come to the site with the client and eat.

For home delivered meals - persons must be 60 years of age or older and be home bound (unable to drive) and be unable to leave home without assistance and not have help in the home with cooking of noon meals. Disabled persons under 60 who are on Medicaid may be eligible to receive meals.

Cost of Meals:

The cost of a meal is a donation of $2.00. If a person is unable to give the full contribution, they may give what they can afford and will not be denied a meal. All meals are cooked in one central kitchen which is located at the Smithville Recreation Center in Smithville. Hot food is transported in insulated food containers by 43 company vans to the 19 sites.
