Lee County Area Cancer
Resource Center
The day
may come when you or someone you love may ask:
- I
just moved to this area. Where can I find an
accredited mammography center?
- My
doctor is recommending a choice of treatments.
Do you have information I can read to learn more?
- I
feel so angry about having cancer. Do others
feel this way?
- My
women's/men's group would like to know more about
cancer. Is anyone available to speak at one of
our meetings?
- My
friend has just been diagnosed with cancer.
How can I best support my friend during this
difficult time?
We're
here to help.
Questions
like these are being answered each day. The Lee
County Area Cancer Resource Center is a program within
the non-profit organization, Combined Community Action,
providing information, education, and support that
encourages individuals to be involved and knowledgeable
in their health care.
The Lee

-
Supportive Counseling
All of the current staff and volunteers who work
with clients are survivors. The survivors
understand how it feels and what it means to be
diagnosed with cancer. They are available to
talk with the newly diagnosed clients and long-term
survivors and caregivers to offer caring support and
information
-
Support Group
Support Groups are available for persons
recently diagnosed (within the last year).
Additional support groups will be developed as the
need arises.
-
Library
The Lee County Area Cancer Resource Center
provides a lending library of books, CDs, DVDs and
audiotapes to help survivors become better informed
about cancer and healing. Also, the library
has computer access with help, if necessary, for the
most up to date cancer-related information.
-
Peer-to-Peer Support
The Lee County Area Cancer Resource Center has a
group of volunteers who have been rained as peer
support volunteers. Peer volunteers share
their experiences with their particular treatments
and offer support and helpful information.
